Remember Often the Destroyer of Pleasures

The Angel of Death goes to a dying man in the most awful of form which anybody has ever seen, if he is destined for Hell. The Angel has 12 eyes and brings with it a forked iron rod made out of fire. 500 Angels black of face, and these Angels do not bring the sweet smelling flower as they did with the Believer. They bring with them copper embers of the Fire of Hell and they bring whips made out of Fire. This is how the Angel of Death and his army comes to a Dying disbelieving person.


Once Prophet Ibrahim (AS) asked the Angel of Death: Show me the form you come at the time of taking out a good soul and at the time taking out a bad soul. Prophet Ibrahim (AS) asked first: Show me the form you come at the time of taking out a good soul. Angel of Death said: Turn your face away. The Angel of Death changed its form. When Prophet Ibrahim (AS) Looked at the Angel of Death and he saw a very handsome young man with a beautiful face. White clothes and with a beautiful smell. Prophet Ibrahim (AS) said: If a believer is deprived of every blessings, every pleasures at the time of his death, just you coming in this beautiful and very handsome form is a much greater compensation. Prophet Ibrahim (AS) than said: Show me the form you come when you take the soul of a Kaffir (Disbeliever). The Angel of Death said: O Ibrahim, you will not be able to bare to see me in this form. Prophet Ibrahim insisted, and the Angel of Death told him again: Turn your face away. The Angel of Death than changed its form.


Prophet Ibrahim turned around and he sees a man black of face. Its feet are in the Dunya and its head is in the heavens. The most awful smells were coming from him. Fire leaking from his nose and coming out of his mouth. Its body hair has fire coming out of each one. Fire also coming out of its ears, nose and mouth. When Prophet Ibrahim saw the Angel of Death in this form, he couldn't bare it and he fainted. The Angel of Death changed its form and Ibrahim said to the Angel: If there is no punishment for a disbeliever at the time of his death, O Angel of Death, You coming in this form it sufficient enough to cause death.

The Great Imam Al-Qurtubi says, "The Angel of Death is so frightening that all the Angels in the Heavens and the Earth fear the Angel of Death more than one of you fears a Lion."

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was given the title of 'Khalilulah', which meant the Friend of Allah

In Another Conversation:

The Angel of Death came to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and said: It is time for you to Return to Allah

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) told him: Why would a friend kill a friend ?

The Angel of Death took his message to Allah

The answer came:

"O Ibrahim! Does a friend refuse an invitation from a friend to come to Him?"
