Invest in the Afterlife

I would like to first apologize for the long wait. I've been busy and wanted to make this post count because this blog will be moving to a new website, which is currently under construction. I told myself that once I reached 10,000 views, I would post the inspiration behind why I started blogging. So without further ado here it is.

The name "halall.blogspot.com" came from a nickname when I was 16 years old; because I worked at a family Halal Meat Shop. Ever since then It had stuck to me and that was the reason I chose this name for this blog. This blog started out basically out of boredom at first. After seeing the views from all around the world coming in my intentions of the blog quickly changed. As I was looking through different topics I stumbled upon the subject of "Death". While writing about death I had a sudden realization of how short life is and that death can strike at any given time. I guess you can say that death was the motivation that kept me sharing the knowledge that I acquired. Think about this, there are two types of people: A worshiper and someone who spreads knowledge. The worshiper has a candle lit alone in devotion and is only benefiting himself. As for the one who spreads knowledge not only is the candle lit around him but it also spreads to all those that surround him.

In a Hadith, The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); knowledge which is beneficial; or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (the deceased).” [Sahih Muslim]

"Knowledge which is beneficial" is the part of the Hadith I wanted to pursue in my blog. I tried to use stories that not only reminded but also inspired all of us. Say that you taught someone something beneficial and they taught it to someone else and this chain keeps going, if you were to pass away, you would get rewarded even from your grave.

My advice to everyone reading this would be to do something in this life that could accumulate deeds for you even after you pass away. This life is short and temporary when the next one is infinite and permanent. There are many ways to do something that could benefit you after your death and help you collect good deeds. For example: bringing a prayer rug to the school prayer room, bringing a Quran to the Masjid for others to read, teaching Quran, Hadith or the Sunnah, starting a beneficial blog, joining a Da'wah group or organization, etc. These are just a few things that can benefit us and the community. Always keep in mind about the intention and sincerity of why we do it; because if it's for any sake other than that of Allah, we can be thrown into Hell according to the Hadith:

“from Abu Hurayrah, who said, “I heard The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) say, ‘ Verily, the first to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who had died as a martyr. He will be brought forward. Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them. Then He will ask him: `What did you do to express gratitude for it?’ The man will reply: `I fought for Your Cause till I was martyred.’ Allah will say: `You have lied. You fought so that people might call you courageous; and they have done so.’ Command will then be issued about him and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. Next a man who had acquired and imparted knowledge and read the Qur’an will be brought forward, Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them. Then He will ask him: `What did you do to express gratitude for it?’ The man will reply: `I acquired knowledge and taught it, and read the Qur’an for Your sake.’ Allah will say to him: `You have lied. You acquired knowledge so that people might call you a learned (man), and you read the Qur’an so that they might call you a reciter, and they have done so.’ Command will then be issued about him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. Next a man whom Allah had made affluent and to whom Allah had given plenty of wealth, will be brought forward, Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them. He will ask him: `What did you do to express gratitude for it?’ The man will reply: `I did not neglect any of the ways You liked wealth to be spend liberally for Your sake’. Allah will say to him: `You have lied. You did it so that people might call you generous, and they have done so.’ Command will then be issued about him and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.” [Sahih Muslim]

I leave you with the words of Sh. Omar Suleiman,
"Either you are relieved from this World or this World is relieved from you".

I would like to thank Allah and each and every person who made this blog what it has become. There will be some changes made with this blog in the next couple of days. If anything good came from this blog, it is from Allah; and if there was anything wrong that you have read, it is solely from my short comings and Shaytaan.
